Self-Tanning 101: Be a Glow-Getter!

The sun is out and summer is knocking! After spending months covering up pale, sunless skin, it's time to start the summer prep and leave the house with a beautiful, radiant glow. Achieve a natural-looking, sun-kissed tan with our top-rated self-tanning routine.

4 Steps to the Best Fake Tan

1. Rehydrate

Nourish your skin in the days leading up to applying your tan. This could be body butter or moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated.

Tip: Before applying self-tan, make sure you're freshly showered. Don't apply moisturiser or deodorant after you shower (except in dry areas like elbows, hands and knees).

2. Exfoliate

Gently exfoliate any dry skin to ensure your tanning application is even. If you have any leftover tan, try the Bondi Sands Tan Eraser to lift existing tan so your skin doesn't feel too stripped from too much exfoliation.

3. Tan

Choosing the right tan can be tough, it often takes trying a few brands to find the one for you. However, to make that decision easier, here are some things to keep in mind.

Tan for Pale / Light Skin

If you have pale or light skin and don't want a tan that's too deep, you may want to opt for a gradual tan or a light/medium shade of self-tan.

Tips & Tricks

To tan tricky areas such as the ankles, feet and elbows, try moisturising these areas prior to application so the tan doesn't stick too much to these naturally dry areas.

Make sure you use a good reusable tanning mitt for a streak-free tan. The Moroccan Blend & Buff Mitt is our absolute favourite!

Immediately before tanning, our number one trick is to jump in the shower and blast yourself with cold water for a couple of seconds before getting out. This will shrink all of your pores and reduce the chance of getting them blocked.

Wondering how to self tan your face? Either use specific face tan like the Bondi Sands Pure Self Tanning Sleep Mask or the Vita Liberata Self Tanning Anti Age Serum. Or for a gradual tanning option you can wear use as a primer, the Vita Liberata Beauty Blur Sunless Glow.

4. Prolong

Keep your tan looking gorgeous for longer by making sure you keep your skin hydrated in the days after application. This means applying either a tan extender like the Moroccan Tan Luminous Mousse 3 in 1 Extender or keep applying body butter or moisturiser to your skin.
